A round-up of some of the notable Juddmonte foalings in Europe for 2021.

Group winner Big Break was the first to kick off Juddmonte’s foaling season for the third year running when she produced a strong, attractive colt by Kingman on 11th January.

Some of the other early arrivals came from Group-winning and well-related mares that Juddmonte has added to the broodmare band in recent years. Group winners Capla Temptress and Dandhu each produced Kingman foals this year, a colt on 4th February and filly on 30th January respectively. Other new additions to the band, Soffia, Flare Of Firelight and Classical Times all gave birth to foals by Frankel. Dual Group-winning sprinter Soffia had a classy bay filly on 14th February - her first foal. Classical Times, a half-sister to dual Gr.1 winner Newspaperofrecord, gave birth to a quality bay filly on 5th April and Flare Of Firelight (dam of two-year-old Gr.2 winner Threat) produced a tall, strong-bodied colt on 2nd April.

From the more established families of the band, Kind foaled a bay colt by Kingman on 2nd March, a half-brother to Gr.1 winners Frankel and Noble Mission. Kingman’s half-sister, Present Tense, produced a substantial Sea The Stars colt on 8th March and Exemplify foaled an Acclamation full sister to Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Expert Eye on 25th February. Her family has enjoyed some smart updates with Group winners Spirit Ridge and Tide Of The Sea in the last four months.

Four-time Gr.1 winner Ventura foaled a bay Frankel filly, who can count Gr.3-winning Fount as a full sibling, on 27th February. Fount herself gave birth to her first foal, a quality Kingman colt, on 19th January. Also foaling for the first time was Group winner Obligate (Frankel). She produced a bay colt by Dubawi on 9th February, described by Stud Director Simon Mockridge as an ‘excellent first foal.’ Listed winner Mori (Frankel), who shares her broodmare sire Oasis Dream with Obligate, also produced a bay colt by Dubawi in the same week (14th February).

 

Two other young mares to foal are a Group-placed daughter of Bated Breath, Gavota, and Listed winner Swiss Range. Gavota produced an attractive bay filly by Oasis Dream on 22nd January and Swiss Range gave birth to a daughter on 19th February from the exciting second crop of Expert Eye. Listed winner Rostova also had an Expert Eye foal this year (12th April) – a good-bodied, well-balanced bay colt. His two-year-old half-brother Nikovo (Kingman) is currently in training with André Fabre. Expert Eye’s first crop foals were very well received by breeders and his second crop look to be continuing that pattern.

Four descendants of the outstanding Juddmonte broodmare Lost Virtue have already had foals in Europe this year. Her granddaughter Sacred Shield produced a full sister to Gr.1 Matriarch Stakes winner Viadera (Bated Breath) on 10th April. Great granddaughters and Gr.1 winning half-sisters Timepiece and Passage Of Time foaled a bay filly by Siyouni (3rd April) and a brown colt by Too Darn Hot (7th February) respectively. Passage Of Time’s colt is a three-quarter brother to multiple Group winner Time Test. Completing the quartet, Time Chaser a daughter of Passage Of Time, gave birth to a bay filly by Nathaniel on 28th February.

Concentric, dam of outstanding racemare, Enable had an attractive, well balanced, bay filly by Sea The Stars on 7th March. The foal’s three-year-old full-brother, Derab, is currently in training with John and Thady Gosden, and holds entries for the Gr.1 Derby, Gr.1 French Derby and Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris, making a promising seasonal debut last week. Also on 7th March, fellow Gr.1 producer Nimble Thimble foaled a bay full brother to two-year-old Gr.1 winner Quadrilateral (Frankel). Listed winner Kilo Alpha, from the family of Dancing Brave, foaled a Kingman half-sister to recent Gr.1 winner Juliet Foxtrot (Dansili) on 5th March and visits Expert Eye this year.

One of Juddmonte’s most prolific racemares, four-time Gr.1 winner Proviso (Dansili), foaled a bay filly by Frankel on 16th March. Proviso is a half-sister to exciting Classic prospect Baratti (Frankel), currently in training with André Fabre. Midday (Oasis Dream), another multiple Gr.1 winner, gave birth to a bay filly from the final crop of Shamardal on 14th February - the same day her daughter Mori foaled. Shutter Speed (Dansili) also has a Shamardal foal – a powerful bay colt born on 27th February, her second foal. Deliberate, who hails from the family of champions Enable and Flintshire, foaled a full brother to dual Gr.2 winner Headman on 25th March.
