Tempus arrives on time

A perfectly timed run in the Gr.3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury yesterday saw Tempus, a son of Kingman, pip Modern News just before the line for his first Group victory.

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 12th August 2022:

Hambleton Racing's Tempus, second in March's Listed Doncaster Mile, had a two and a half-length victory in an Ascot handicap last time out and benefitted from the assistance of an on-fire Hollie Doyle to secure a career high in Thursday's Gr.3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury.

The Archie Watson trainee hopped from the stalls in third and raced off the clear leader Modern News in second for most of the one-mile contest. Rowed along to reduce arrears with three furlongs remaining, the well-backed 11-4 second choice came under sterner urging approaching the eighth pole and kept on strongly in the closing stages to deny Godolphin's long-time pacesetter by three-quarters of a length in the dying strides.

Tempus is the seventh of 12 foals and one of five scorers out of Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud victrix Passage Of Time, herself a full-sister to Gr.2 King Edward VII Stakes-winning sire Father Time and Listed Silver Cup winner Continuum. Passage Of Time is also a half-sister to Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes heroine Timepiece. The April-foaled bay is a full-brother to a weanling colt and a half-brother to Gr.1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes, Gr.1 Manhattan Stakes and Gr.1 Fourstardave Handicap place-getter and multiple Group-winning sire Time Test. He is also kin to the unraced two-year-old filly Primeval and a yearling colt Too Darn Hot.
