Successful Deauville for Juddmonte sires
Yearlings by the Juddmonte stallions were again in demand at Arqana’s premier yearling sale in Deauville over the weekend, led by Lot 62, a Kingman half-sister to Oasis Dream’s Gr.2 Superlative Stakes-winning two-year-old, Native Trail.
The filly out of Needleleaf, bred by Jose Delmotte of Haras d'Haspel, topped Saturday’s session of the sale when selling to Godolphin for €950,000.
Delmotte told Thoroughbred Daily News: “It's a great sale. I heard all the wonderful compliments people were paying her, that she was exceptional, fabulous. Marc-Antoine [Berghgracht] has always tried to push me in the right direction to try and improve the quality of our mares. And whoever you speak to in the world of bloodstock, they always tell you that the model breeding operation is Juddmonte. So whenever we are at a sale [in Newmarket] we always look to see what they have that corresponds to our needs that might be somewhere near our budget."
On Sunday, not long after Palace Pier’s win in the Gr.1 Prix Jacques Le Marois, Kingman achieved another good result with Lot 113, a colt out of Listed winner Via Pisa. Consigned by Haras de Saint-Pair, the colt sold to Godolphin for €850,000.
Also on Sunday, Lot 99, a Frankel half-sister to Group winners Fas and Silva consigned by Ecurie de Monceaux, sold for €525,000 to Charlie Gordon-Watson on behalf of an unnamed owner/breeder. Gordon-Watson commented: "We love Frankel and this is a wonderful family. She's a late foal and she will only improve. She will be trained by John Gosden."
Oasis Dream meanwhile had two yearlings in the sale– Lot 50, a filly out of stakes winner Mary’s Precedent, consigned by Haras de Cadran and sold to Frédéric Sauque for €150,000; and Lot 89, a half-sister to Gr.3 winner Real Value consigned by Haras de l’Hotellerie also sold to Sauque for €120,000.
