Son of Frankel runs away with Listed Ascendant Stakes

Charlie Fellowes’s two-year-old  Luther came from off the pace to land Saturday's Listed Ascendant Stakes over a mile at Haydock.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 8th September 2024:

The strong-travelling son of Frankel settled towards the rear and began to creep closer at the three-furlong pole. He weaved a passage through rivals over a furlong from home and, after hitting the front a matter of moments later, forged clear to prevail by two lengths. Qilin Queen ran on from the rear into second, a further half a length in front of Eternal Elixir back in third.

This was a second career success for the juvenile and a first at blacktype level. He made a winning debut over 7f at Salisbury. back in June, before finishing runner-up in last month’s Listed EBF Stonehenge Stakes over a mile at the same track.

Bred by Coln Valley Stud, the colt was a 250,000gns purchase by Charles Gordon-Watson at last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, and is now owned by P Hickman and Nicholas Jones. He is a half-brother to the Listed-placed dual winner Good
Gracious (Kingman), out of the Gr.3 Musidora Stakes victrix and Gr.2-placed Give And Take. The family also includes the Classic winners Fame And Glory and Legatissimo.
