Sir Delius becomes Frankel's 40th Group 1 winner

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Sir Delius became the 40th worldwide top-level winner for Frankel when crossing the line in front in Saturday's Gr.1 Underwood Stakes over 1800m at Caulfield.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 21st September 2025:

The entire tracked the leaders and began to be pushed along on the turn for home. He was passed by fellow Euro import Buckaroo, who won the race last year, in the straight, but fought back gamely between rivals to lead in the closing stages. Buckaroo was beaten a half a length in second, with just a nose further back to Golden Path in third.

All roads seem to lead to November’s Gr.1 Melbourne Cup for Sir Delius (who raced as Delius in Europe), who had won the Gr.3 Prix du Lys and was placed in the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris for Jean-Claude Rouget and the Coolmore partners last season. Bred by Trish and David Brown of Furnace Mill Stud, he was a 675,000gns purchase by MV Magnier at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, before being sold by Coolmore to de Burgh Equine, McKeever Bloodstock and Go Bloodstock for 1,300,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale. He is a full-brother to the Royal Ascot winner Juan Elcano and hails from the top-class family of Rafha (dam of sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac).
