Red Letter wins the Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes

Three-year-old Frankel filly Red Letter returned to the winner’s enclosure for her first blacktype win when getting up in the Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes at Killarney yesterday evening (16th July).

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 17th July 2025:

The daughter of Frankel was aimed at the big prizes after her two-year-old maiden success, finishing a close fourth in the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes and seventh, beaten less than three lengths, in the Gr.1 1,000 Guineas this spring. She had her sights lowered last time out in the Listed Kooyonga Stakes, but she was narrowly beaten by the smart Barnavara, who subsequently won the Gr.3 Jannah Rose Stakes.

Racing over a mile for the third time this season and on soft ground for the first time in her career, she duly gained her first blacktype win under Colin Keane. She was caught wide around this tight track, but made easy progress to challenge the gutsy Fiery Lucy approaching the final two furlongs and got up 20 yards from home to win by half a length. Ecstatic was two and three-quarter lengths further back in third.

The Juddmonte homebred is the first foal out of the Listed Chelmer Stakes-placed Red Impression. The second dam Purissima is a half-sister to the Gr.1 Prix de la Foret winner Etoile Montante, while the third dam Willstar is a full-sister to the Listed winner and Gr.3-placed Viviana (dam of the Gr.1 winners Sightseek and Tates Creek). This is the family of the champion and dual Classic winner Special Duty and the Gr.1 winner and sire Expert Eye.
