Undefeated in two starts as a juvenile, the André Fabre-trained three-year-old was widely regarded as a strong contender for this season’s Classics, but finished a disappointing eighth on her seasonal bow at Gr.3 level and subsequently took no part in the early season Gr.1s. Showing a flicker of hope when fourth in a Listed race last month, she was stepped up to 2000m for yesterday’s contest, her third of the season.
Providing the second leg of a four-timer for jockey Olivier Peslier, she was settled towards the middle of the eight runners in a race taken along by the Jessica Harrington-trained Viareggio (Caravaggio). Taking over early in the straight, Raclette maintained a clear advantage all the way to the line to score from Tariyana (Sea the Stars), with Viareggio holding onto third. The well-bred daughter of Frankel is one of three winners out of four-time Gr.1 winner Emollient (Empire Maker) and is a half-sister to Peace Charter (War Front), a maiden winner at Naas and third at Gr.2 level, and a full-sister to the Listed-placed Licence. Emollient is a half-sister to the Gr.3-placed LIsted winner Courtier (Pioneerof The Nile) and to Hofburg (Tapit), who finished second in the Gr.1 Florida Derby.
