New US stakes winners for Frankel and Kingman this Saturday
Redistricting, a son of Kingman, struck first in the Listed Monmouth stakes at Monmouth Park and an hour later Frankel colt Rebel Red claimed his first blacktype win in the Listed Chorleywood Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 15th June 2025:
Redistricting broke well and was sent to the front by Flavien Prat, leading the field through an easy opening quarter in :24.98 and a half in 49.14. Pressured a bit up the backstretch, the 3-10 favourite continued to gallop along on the front end, and widened the margin as they turned for home. Otago poised a threat in the lane, but not for long, as Redistricting kicked away in the final sixteenth, striding out to win by five lengths.
"This was a little class relief for him. He's been running in maybe a little higher company so he needed one like this," said Luis Cabrera, Chad Brown's assistant. "He has never been on the lead like this before but Chad told [Flavien Prat] if he breaks good, and is comfortable, just let him go. It's only a six-horse field so he was able to have things his own way."
"I think this turf course was something he really liked. It was an impressive effort. I think he can run all day [if he goes forward in the Gr.2 United Nations Stakes on the Haskell Stakes undercard]."
In the Chorleywood Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday, Rebel Red returned to the races in fine style. The last time Rebel Red raced under the Twin Spires in the Gr.3 Louisville Stakes it did not go well. After clipping heels, the five-year-old went down, but was able to get up and walk off the course. Returning to the work tab, Rebel Red was a 9-2 shot here. The Cherie DeVaux trainee was in no hurry exiting the gate as he loped along at the rear field past the grandstand for the first time. A longshot leader was joined by several pursuers up the backstretch, but Rebel Red did not begin to make his move till he angled out towards the center of the course at the top of the lane. Uncorking a furious rally, the chestnut rolled home to get his first piece of blacktype hardware.
