Mare in foal to Chaldean makes 625,000gns at Tattersalls

Ringfort Stud-consigned Rocana (Fastnet Rock) realised 625,000gns at Tattersalls December Mare Sale yesterday. She was the second most expensive mare to sell on day one of the sale, alongside Unbreak My Heart who also reached 625,000gns.

Rocana (Lot 1480),  is the 10-year-old dam of Group winner Youth Spirit and stakes winner Canberra Legend  already, was purchased in foal to Chaldean, by agent Charlie Gordon Watson on behalf of Watership Down Stud.

“We’ve had a bit of luck with the mare before with the pinhook,” said Gordon-Watson. “She’s a good fit for Too Darn Hot. She’s got a good record and the Ghaiyyath yearling [a 350,000gns Tattersalls December foal] is obviously very nice, so it all fits. And Chaldean foals might be hot. I thought she’d make about that because it’s such a strong market.”
