Listed success for Frankel's Light Refrain

Juvenile winner and Listed Rockingham Stakes runner-up Light Refrain (Frankel) carried Her Majesty The Queen’s silks to victory in the Listed Kilvington Stakes on Saturday at Nottingham over 6f.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 9th May 2021:

The three-year-old daughter of Frankel raced towards the rear, tracking Ventura Diamond as the field spread the width of the track. Niggled along from the two furlong pole, she picked up well under Shane Kelly to pull clear for victory by one and a quarter lengths. The favourite and Listed Prix de Bonneval winner Last Empire ran on to claim second close home by three quarters of a length from Ventura Diamond in third.

Winning trainer William Haggas said: "She travelled well and Shane [Kelly] said she picked up nicely. I thought she’d handle the ground as she ran very well on it last year at York. I was more concerned with the draw to be honest, but she did what she needed to win. We’ll be looking at a Group race next, possibly in Ireland at the beginning of June at the Curragh."

Owned and bred by Her Majesty The Queen, the winner is the sole runner to date out of the Listed scorer and Gr.3 Chartwell Stakes runner-up Light Music. She is the best of three winners from four runners out of the Listed (then) Sceptre Stakes winner Medley, from the family of the Gr.1 Australian Cup hero Spillway.
