Listed stakes win for Latakia
Francis-Henri Graffard’s four-year-old Frankel filly Latakia came from the clouds to win the Prix Luth Enchantee at Clairefontaine yesterday afternoon (2nd August).
Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 3rd August 2025:
The 2400m Listed race for fillies and mares aged four and above attracted a competitive field of 11 and for much of the home straight the lightly-raced Latakia looked a most unlikely winner. Settled in mid-division by Clement Lecoeuvre as fellow Frankel filly Golightly set the early tempo, she was caught flat-footed when Le Combat Continue pressed on approaching the home straight. Still with some five lengths to make up on the leader passing the 200m pole, the Juddmonte-owned filly finally hit full stride and devoured the ground late on to get up and win by a neck. Euboa finished just under two lengths away in third.
Purchased at the 2021 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale for €590,000, she was bred by Sarl Darpat France. She is the second winner by Frankel out of the French Gr.2 and Gr.3 winner Castellar, a half-sister to the dual French Gr.1 winner and sire Recoletos. The winner of a Nantes maiden on debut in May and then unplaced in the Listed Prix Pawneese, Latakia’s future entries include the Gr.2 Prix Alec Head (formerly the Prix de Pomone) and Gr.1 Prix de Royallieu.
