Kingman's Quddwah on top in the Gr.2 Solonaway Stakes

Having his first start since chasing home Ombudsman in Meydan's Gr.1 Dubai Turf in March, Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum's Quddwah (Kingman) shook off any rustiness to carry off Leopardstown's Gr.2 Solonaway Stakes on Saturday.

Backed into even-money favouritism as the class act of the mile contest, having collected a Summer Mile, a Prix Messidor and the Singspiel and Zabeel Mile in the desert, the homebred was handed a lead by the habitual front-runner Audience until it was time to say goodbye approaching the furlong pole. Strong to the line, the Crisfords' stalwart recorded a length and half success from the long-time leader, with Charles Fort the same margin back in third.

"He did it really well, it's nice to see him bounce back from his summer break," Ed Crisford said. "I thought he was a little bit rusty when James [Doyle] asked him, but he finished off really well. He's got the Daniel Wildenstein in France, but he'll have a penalty in that and there are races in America for him. There is a Grade 1 in October as well. I guess we'll just see how he is. He's won quite a few Grade 2s, so it would be nice to give him a crack at a Grade 1."
