King Frankel battles to win Listed Parramatta Cup

Formerly trained by Mark Johnston, Irish-bred King Frankel won the Listed Parramatta Cup over 1900m at Rosehill on Saturday 18th February.

The five-year-old won his first official start Down Under back in September and has been ticking along since, with wins at Warwick and back at Newcastle before his first step up into Stakes class.
Ridden by Tyler Schiller for Mark Nenham, he ground down the front-running Banju by a neck, with Sacramento a further length and a quarter back in third. It appears his main future target may be the Gr.1 Sydney Cup. While a Kingsley Park resident, King Frankel had just one win in ten starts to his name – a 32-length rout of a three-runner Pontefract maiden – but still reached an official rating of 91. He was bred by Premier Bloodstock and cost 280,000gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 as a full-brother to the Gr.2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano winner and triple Gr.1-placed sire Eminent. Their dam, the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile-placed You’ll Be Mine (Kingmambo) is out of the Gr.1 winner and multiple Classicplaced Quarter Moon (Sadler’s Wells), a full-sister to the Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday.
