Hammer-Hansen and Grewe [also] struck in the 1600m Listed race for fillies and mares, this time securing the prize courtesy of the Stefan Hahne-owned Daydream Express (Kingman).
Making her first start of the year, she was stationed on the shoulder of pacesetter Ayada virtually throughout, with the pair engaging in a ding-dong battle up the home straight. Daydream Express finally gained the upper hand inside the final 50m and went on to win by three quarters of a length, with Newsells Park Stud’s La Pasionara grabbing some valuable black type in third.

This was a real triumph of perseverance for Daydream Express, who was making her Stakes breakthrough at the age of five. Bred in Britain by Apple Tree Stud, she went into training with John and Thady Gosden after being sold to Blandford Bloodstock for 300,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Unraced at two and rated only 65 after an uninspiring three-year-old season, she was picked up by her current owner for just 18,000gns at the 2024 Tattersalls February Sale. That proved to be an inspired bit of business, as she went on to win five times in Germany last year and now has an all-important Stakes success to her name. She is a granddaughter of the Gr.2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner and Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera second Irresistible Jewel (Danehill; dam of the Gr.1 Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond, the Gr.2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner and Gr.1 Irish Oaks third Princess Highway and the Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas second Mad About You), and now rates a valuable commodity in her own right once again.
