Jockey Thore Hammer-Hansen was quick to deal out some praise: "He is the best horse I have ridden so far, my sincere thanks to the entire team at Henk Grewe's stable, to the trainer and Penalty's lad Memo who rides him every morning and led him up today."
Penalty is the last foal out of the dual Listed-placed Praia who was responsible for the seven-times Group-winning Premio Roma hero Potemkin and the Listed scorer and Gr.3 Preis der Winterkonigin-placed Paraisa. The second dam is the Listed winner Prada, who produced the Gr.1
