Frankel's Herman Hesse powers to Caulfield win

Having registered his first stakes win when scoring in the R.M. Ansett Classic last month, the Ciaron Maher-trained Herman Hesse (Frankel) doubled his stakes tally when producing a career-best effort to land Saturday’s Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield.

Taken from the ANZ Bloodstock News, 13th October 2024:

Ridden by Declan Bates, the eight-year-old gelding hit the lead with 100 metres left to run and kept on well to beat Okita Soushi by 1.3 lengths in a quinella for Maher. There was a further length back to the third-placed Fancy Man.

“He's [Herman Hesse] a horse that requires a higher level of work as a big, strong gelding," Maher said. "They just do more work there. Every day they do less galloping, and he seems to be thriving on it. Australian Bloodstock, we've scaled the heights. Hopefully, Herman's on the way to scaling some more heights, but they're just a great team to work with. They've got a big, massive ownership group, can’t thank them enough. I'm glad he's put a couple together. He's probably in career-best form. He looks fantastic and they're going to have a great rest of the spring carnival as well.”

Bred by Lady Bamford, the gelding was bought by owners Australian Bloodstock and Ronald Rauscher for 75,000gns at the 2020 Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale.
