Frankel filly wins German Listed prize for Prescott

Sir Mark Prescott-trained two-year-old filly Martinet (Frankel) secured a maiden blacktype win in the 1500m Listed Winterkönigin Trial at Cologne yesterday.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 28th September 2026:

Owned and bred by Denford Stud, Martinet had won a seven furlong Thirsk novice on her second start and then finished third in the Gr.3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket. A subsequent fifth in the Gr.2 May Hill Stakes behind the highly regarded Musical Times represented another solid performance and was enough to see her shade favouritism in this six-runner heat.

Breaking from stall three under Luke Morris, Martinet wasn’t the quickest into stride and had to be briefly chased along to take up the running, but it was smooth sailing thereafter. She was shaken up after turning into the home straight and quickly stole a three or four-length advantage. Although Gipsy Princess ran on well in the closing stages, she was still two-and-a-half lengths behind the British raider at the finish, with Dalmera another head further away in third.

Connections will have been particularly pleased to secure a Stakes win with Martinet, as it does wonders for the profile of her dam Coronet. An exceptional racemare who won the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and Gr.1 Prix Jean et Louis Romanet for John Gosden, Coronet’s broodmare career was a little slow to get going, but Martinet is proving her true capabilities.
