Frankel filly Believed strikes at Group level

Making the step into Group company for the first time, the Qatar Racing-owned Believed (Frankel) showed a good turn of foot to land the Gr.3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork on Friday (14th August).

Trained by Johnny Murtagh and ridden by Ben Coen, the three-year-old filly raced towards the rear as Coolmore’s Ice Dancer set a strong pace from the front. Approaching the four-furlong marker, the field began to close and Snapretend, who had raced just behind the leader, took up the running. Bosphorus Rose made smooth headway into contention to challenge Snapretend, who continued to hold her in front. Inside the final furlong, several contenders emerged and the outcome looked uncertain, but Believed produced a good turn of foot down the centre of the track to quicken past her rivals and won going away to score by half a length from Amelia Earhart, while Caught U Sleeping was a further length and a half back in third.

The victory marked her second win from five career starts, having shed her maiden tag on her third start at Dundalk before finishing third in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. Showing strong form, she was tested in the Listed Marble City Stakes on her next start, where she again finished third. She currently holds entries for the Gr.3 Irish St Leger Trial Stakes, the Gr.1 British Champions Long Distance Cup and the Gr.1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes. She is a half-sister to the dual Gr.1 winner Gold Trip and is out of the runner Sarvana. The further family includes the Gr.3 Prix de Lieurey winner and Gr.1-placed Sarkiyla (Oasis Dream; dam of the Gr.3 winner Saiydabad).
