Lot 85 Frankel - Katie's Diamond ©TattersallsEuropeFrankel colt heads the December Yearling Sale on a day of records
A Frankel half-brother (Lot 85) to Dramatised set a new sale record for a colt at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale in Newmarket yesterday (24th November) when sold for 425,000gns to Alex Elliott.
Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 25th November 2025, by Nancy Sexton:
The colt’s sale headed a day during which records fell across-the-board, ranging from the number of six-figure lots (17) to the aggregate, average and median prices, thereby providing a buoyant start to Tattersalls’ ten-day December finale.
The Frankel colt was widely tipped to be one of the leading lights of the day as a well-bred colt who was catalogued to yesterday’s sale after missing his engagement in Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale. He didn’t disappoint, attracting the attention of Alex Elliott and Anthony Stroud, with the former ultimately coming out on top at 425,000gns on behalf of a racing partnership with plans to send him to William Haggas.
Sold by Hazelwood Bloodstock, the colt was bred by Branton Court Stud out of Katie’s Diamond, a high-class two-year-old in her day for Karl Burke who won the 2015 Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket. She changed hands at the end of her racing career through Joe Foley for 190,000gns and proved an immediate success as the dam of Clipper Logistics’ excellent sprinter Dramatised, winner of the 2022 Gr.2 Queen Mary Stakes and 2023 Gr.2 Temple Stakes.
“This colt looks like a fast Frankel,” continued Elliott. “It’s a fast family, even though the mare is by Turtle Bowl. I remember her racing for Karl Burke – she was very impressive the day she won the Empress at the July course, and she’s obviously produced Dramatised, who was also very fast."
“I didn’t think I’d get him to be honest and am delighted that we did. The December Sales can produce some very good horses as we’ve seen over the years, and hopefully he’s one that can add his name to the roll of honour.”
