Frankel and Kingman colts shine at Goffs Dubai Breeze Up Sale
The Frankel colt out of Noyelles (Docksider) looked one of the standout offerings on paper and duly brought the sale’s second highest price when knocked down to Hirokazu Okada of Japanese operation Big Red Farm for AED2.1m (€520,638).
The youngster was offered by Church Farm and Horse Park Stud as Lot 30. “He was a very nice colt and we brought him here after discussions with friends who own the horse,” said Horse Park Stud’s John Cullinan, who operates in partnership with Roger Marley of Church Farm. “We said he needs to be treated as a good horse and the style of the breeze at this sale leant itself to that. “Typically you wouldn’t be bringing a Frankel to an early season breeze-up sale but this was slightly different as it was an old style breeze where the horses could display their attitude and action and that suited this horse, who was never going to be a two-furlong rocket. “He got very little galloping and Roger Marley has done a great job with him. He was naturally talented and knew his job. We think and hope he’ll be a good horse. Pat Dobbs rode him and said he gave him a great feel.”
The two-year-old colt was bred by Goffs’ Executive Director Nick Nugent and his wife, Alice, from the unraced Noyelles, whose brood is headed by Lily’s Angel (Dark Angel), winner of ten races including the Gr.3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes, and the Listed-winning Zurigha (Cape Cross). The Frankel colt has been something of a sales ring regular since his birth on 5th February, 2020, having first appeared at the Goffs November Foal Sale, where he fetched €360,000 from Oneliner Stables. He was then reoffered by Oneliner at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, where Dermot Farrington signed at 300,000gns.
Noyelles, who was bought by Alice Nugent for just €22,000 at Arqana in 2007, is a sibling to eight winners, most notably George Strawbridge’s In Clover (Inchinor) who not only won the Gr.3 Prix de Flore but has gone on to breed six Stakes performers herself. These include three Gr.1 winners, namely Prix du Cadran hero Call The Wind (Frankel), Prix de l’Opera winner We Are (Dansili) and Prix Rothschild scorer With You (Dansili).
KINGMAN COLT CATCHES DOYLE’S EYE
Robson Aguiar and Amo Racing went to 110,000gns for the Kingman colt out of Raskutani (Dansili) at Book 1 of last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and collected a tidy profit when,
offered as Lot 40, the youngster was resold to Ross Doyle at AED2m (€495,846). The April-born colt is a sibling to seven winners, most notably
Gr.3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes scorer Agent Murphy (Cape Cross). Another half-brother, Global Heat (Toronado), added further black type to Raskutani’s production record when third in the Gr.3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan in February. “He’s a nice horse by a very good stallion who comes from a good home,” said Doyle. “He breezed well and has a lovely pedigree to back that up. He’ll go back to the UK and hopefully he’s got a big future ahead of him. No trainer has been decided upon yet but he’s for an existing client and we’ll make a plan in the next few weeks.”
The unraced Raskutani counts three black-type winners among her siblings, namely Gr.2 Superlative Stakes scorer Hatta Fort (Cape Cross), Gr.3 Princess Royal Stakes victress Spirit Of Appin (Champs Elysees) and the Gr.3 Sweet Solera Stakes winner Blue Bayou (Bahamian Bounty). The pedigree traces back to Gr.1-winning names like Miss Keller and Harbour Law below the third dam.
