First US winner for Mandaloun

Freshman sire and 2021 Kentucky Derby winner Mandaloun sired his first US winner on 16th June when his son Book Value won his racing debut by three and three-quarter lengths at Thistledown.

Taken from the Blood Horse, 16th June 2026, by Eric Mitchell:

Book Value is an Ohio-bred owned by Marion Gorham, who races as Marion F. Gorham Revocable Trust, and is trained by Marion's brother Robert Gorham, who is also the gelding's breeder of record. Robert Gorham bred Book Value out of the Speightstown daughter Wall Street Lady, who is the dam of Grade 1-placed stakes winner Livingmybestlife. He bought the mare for $8,500 through Wanamaker's 2021 February Sale from Maccabee Farm. Wall Street Lady now has three winners from as many starters, and has a yearling filly by Yaupon.

Book Value debuted in a 5-furlong maiden special weight on Thistledown's main track. Jockey Erik Barbaran gave the gelding a stalking trip along the rail for the first 3 furlongs, then began his rally at the top of the stretch to win full out and drawing away. The final time was :59.62.
