First Listed victory for Sand Gazelle
The John and Thady Gosden-trained Sand Gazelle (Frankel) carried The Thoroughbred Racing Corporation’s colours to success in the Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes over ten and a half furlongs at York on Friday evening (25th July).
Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 26th July 2025:
The Frankel filly made all and held off royal runner Rainbows Edge, a stablemate, by a neck in the closing stages, with Simon and Ed Crisford’s Charlotte’s Web flashing home three quarters of a length behind in third.
This was a first Stakes success for the three-year-old, who got off the mark on debut in December and returned with a fourth-placed effort in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket, before finishing third at the same level later that month in Newbury’s Childwickbury Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes.
Bred by Faisal Meshrf Al Qahtani, she was knocked down to her owners for 425,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, having gone through the ring as part of the Barton Stud consignment. She is the first winner out of Desirous (Kingman), a dual winner and a half-sister to the multiple Gr.1 heroine Bluestocking (Camelot). The second dam Emulous (Dansili) won the Gr.1 Matron Stakes and is a full-sister to the Gr.3 Prix Gontaut-Biron victor First Sitting and Listed Criterium de Vitesse victrix Daring Diva (dam of the Gr.2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes winner Brooch and Listed Naas Oaks Trial winner Caponata).
