Fifth Group 1 win for Inspiral

Inspiral (Frankel) proved her class with a resounding three and three-quarter-length triumph in the Gr.1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket om Saturday, her fifth win at the highest level.

Sent off a shade of odds-on against seven fellow females following her magnificent second Gr.1 Prix Jacques Le Marois triumph against the colts at Deauville in August, Inspiral was held up as Roman Mist cut out a none-too-strenuous gallop. Dettori then made a decisive move towards the inside rail and took the lead with well over a quarter of the straight mile contest to run. His partner never looked like stopping in front and Dettori was able to punch the air in the closing stages. Mqse De Sevigne got the better of a tight battle for second with Heredia by three quarters of a length.

Owned and bred by Cheveley Park Stud and trained by John and Thady Gosden, Insprial was notching the fifth Gr.1 triumph of her career, those two Marois wins coming after she had landed the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile as a two-year-old and the Gr.1 Coronation Stakes on her belated three-year-old debut.

Dettori said: “We knew the pace wasn’t going to be that strong and she wants a much stronger tempo. She has got a crescendo of three furlongs and I didn’t want to mess around, so I thought ‘come on let’s go’ and let them come and try and catch you. She showed the world today what a superstar horse she is."

John Gosden, added: “Inspiral was in top form today. The ground was quick and she runs on anything bar the heavy of Goodwood. Plans, we will see. She is in the QEII and she could be entered at the Breeders’ Cup, but we won’t make a decision for at least a week or two. One lady will decide if she races on and that is Mrs [Patricia] Thompson [of Cheveley Park Stud].”

She is the fourth foal and fourth winner out of the Gr.1 1,000 Guineas and Gr.1 Coronation Stakes runner-up Starscope. Her grandam is a half-sister to Cheveley Park’s dual Gr.1 hero and sire Medicean (Machiavellian).
