Chaldean retired to Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud

Juddmonte is delighted to announce that the Dewhurst Stakes and 2000 Guineas-winning son of Frankel, Chaldean will join the stallion roster at Banstead Manor Stud for the 2024 season.

Bred by the Harper family at Whitsbury Manor Stud, Chaldean was purchased by Juddmonte at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2020 for 550,000gns. Chaldean is one of five blacktype horses out of the Dutch Art mare Suelita, another being current Group 1 performing sprinter Get Ahead.

As a two-year-old he stepped up from winning his Novice to take the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York and Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster by three and a half lengths. He signed off his two-year-old year winning the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in the second fastest time, a race also won by his sire Frankel.

Demonstrating continued progression from two to three, his three-year-old career started unconventionally in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes. However, only two weeks later he joined the illustrious company of only 18 horses since 1874 to complete the Dewhurst-Guineas double, such as Nijinsky, El Gran Senor, Zafonic, Rock Of Gibraltar, Frankel and Churchill. At the same time, Frankel and Chaldean completed what no other father-son duo had done before.

Trainer Andrew Balding adds: “Chaldean is just a dream horse; the most professional, uncomplicated, and beautifully balanced horse we have had during his time at Kingsclere.

He showed unusual improvement through his unique sequence of prestigious wins in the Acomb Stakes, Champagne Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes at two-years-old only to improve again to win the 2000 Guineas before his turning three-years-old.”

General Manager of Juddmonte UK, Simon Mockridge commented: “We would like to extend special thanks to Andrew Balding and the teams at Kingsclere and Juddmonte for guiding and skilfully developing the racing career of Chaldean.

We look forward to welcoming our Classic winner Chaldean as the first son of Frankel to stand at Banstead Manor Stud, further strengthening Juddmonte’s European stallion roster.”
