Born A King takes Mornington's stakes feature race

Frankel's Born A King produced a thrilling finish in Saturday's Listed R M Ansett Classic to take his first blacktype win.

Taken from ANZ Bloodstock News, 1st October 2023:

Chris Waller-trained Born A King took out the Listed R M Ansett Classic. The seven-year-old gelding prevailed in a close finish, beating Regal Power by a nose, while Rebel Racer was another half a length away in third.

He got his nose to the line in the last stride to make his fifth win also his maiden stakes. He had three behind him with a lap to run and two behind him down the back and on to the 800 metres. He ran up to fifth at 600 meters to go and rounding into the straight continued to gain and was third at the top of the short straight. He took time to wind up, edged closer at the 100 meters, was a head second at 50metres then dove at the line to win by a nose.

The gelding was bought by his trainer for 120,000gns at the 2020 edition of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale and he is out of winning Empire Maker mare Fairwater and hails from the same family as Grade 1 winner and sire Mizzen Mast.
