Bated Breath filly makes successful British raid
William Haggas is no stranger to a successful Irish raid and did so again yesterday evening with a victory for his three-year-old First Instinct in the Listed EBF Polonia Stakes over 51/2f at Cork.

The daughter of Bated Breath raced prominently and ran on to lead over a furlong from home to mark Bated Breath's 28th stakes winner. She stayed on well to deny the fast-finishing Town And Country (Earthlight) by just a head, with Songhai a further half-length behind in third. Last year’s Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes heroine Babouche could only manage fourth on her seasonal reappearance. The filly had won her opening two starts as a juvenile over 6f at Nottingham and Haydock, before finishing seventh in the Gr.3 Oh So Sharp Stakes over 7f at Newmarket. She was placed third in the Listed EBF Lansdown Stakes over 5f at Bath on her first start this season.
Owned and bred by the Dunchurch Lodge Stud Company, she is a half-sister to the Listed Finale Stakes victrix Variable, out of the Juddmonte-bred Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine and champion Proportional (Beat Hollow). This is also the family of the multiple Gr.1 winner and champion Romantic Warrior.
