Baroud defeats Daryzan in the Gr.2 Guillaume d'Oranano

Imad Alsagar's Baroud (Frankel), last seen finishing second in June's Gr.2 Prix Eugene Adam, defied his double-digit odds to upset TDN Rising Star Daryzan in Gr.2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville on Saturday.

Trailing all four rivals through halfway and into the straight, the 10-1 chance made headway off the home turn to lead entering the final furlong and was pushed out to secure a career high by two lengths and a length from Daryzan and Proof.

"He's been a slow-maturing horse, but he's run better and better and improved again when he ran at Saint-Cloud," said racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe. "He went well in his last piece of work on Tuesday, which was really encouraging, and, as a Group 2 winner by Frankel, he is something special. The options are becoming more rarified, so we will focus on next year and, as he loves the fast ground, it probably won't be Longchamp."
