Schnell Meister wins the Gr.1 NHK Mile Cup

Schnell Meister (Kingman) closed late to capture the Gr.1 NHK Mile at Tokyo yesterday (9th May).

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 10th May 2021:

The son of Kingman broke well from one of the widest draws. The first 1000 metres was covered in a sharp :56.90. On the bend, Schnell Meister rallied sharply and was within shouting distance of the leaders with a quarter mile to travel. A furlong from home, he still had a couple lengths to find, but unleashed a powerful turn of foot to collar Songline by a nose at the line. Grenadier Guards (Frankel) was third, two and a half lengths back. All of the first three horses were owned by Sunday Racing Co Ltd.

Out of Gr.1 Preis der Diana heroine Serienholde, Schnell Meister, who was bred by Northern Farm, is the fourth Group 1 winner by Kingman and first in Japan.
