New US stakes winner for Kingman

Serve The King (Kingman) captured his first stakes win in the Listed John's Call Stakes at Saratoga yesterday.

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 26th August 2021:

Serve the King had been knocking at the door of a blacktype score and broke through on 25th August. Stalking from second through the  first quarter of the race, the bay was overtaken, but maintained his spot on the hedge in third. The top two shot off to a double-digit lead. Closing the gap on the backstretch, Serve the King launched a two-wide bid at the top of the lane, running down Ry's The Guy late too provide trainer Chad Brown with his fifth winner on the card.

"We've been trying to get this horse around three turns since last year and we just didn't have the races available," said Brown. "He got started a little late last year and by the time we were really ready to start him, it was going to be in the Red Smith and he got injured so I had to stop on him. Mr. Brant has just been so patient, he always is with these horses and lets us give them the time and he came back really well this year."

Serve The King was bred by Philippa Cooper's Normandie Stud and was purchased by owner Peter Brant at Tattersall's October Book 1 sale for 260,000gns in 2017.
