Kingman colt tops day two at Magic Millions

A Kingman colt out of Gr.3 Gold Coast Guineas winner Florentina topped day two of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on Wednesday (13th January).

Lot 322, consigned by Segenhoe Stud on behalf of breeder John Camilleri, was purchased by Tom Magnier of Coolmore for $1.8 million.

"All credit goes to his breeder John Camilleri. John's always been a global thinker, obviously he bred Winx and Vancouver [both sold at previous editions of the Gold Coast sale]," Peter O'Brien from Segenhoe Stud told ANZ Bloodstock News. "He's as good looking a horse as you would see. He was up at Hazelwood Stud in England, which is run by great friends of mine, Adrian and Philippa O'Brien. From the day he was born Adrian was singing his praises.

"When he arrived at Segenhoe, about 12 months ago, as soon as he got off the float you could see he had presence, and when we got to the sale here we knew he was going to sell well, with the amount of interest. All the big players were on him.

"Anyone in the horse business would know how good Kingman has started off. He's had winners globally. The big thing for me is I think he's had three runners in Australia and they're all winners. What I loved was that a couple of weeks ago he had two really good two-year-old winners in Japan. They love fast ground, the sire lines worked here in Australia, so if any stallion is ever going to work here, to me, it's him.

"Obviously Coolmore know the horse very well, and Tom Magnier said they weren't going to leave the sales ground without him."

Tom Magnier added: “Segenhoe always have incredible horses at this sale. John Camilleri can certainly breed a horse – when you see the Fairway brand you have to take them seriously.

“He’s a lovely individual and we know how well Kingman is going at the moment – all the boxes were ticked for us. We are delighted to be able to get him and he will go to Chris Waller – all of the (Coolmore) guys liked him, so fingers crossed."
