Lightly-raced Quddwah remains unbeaten

A late rally in the Listed Paradise Stakes at Ascot yesterday saw Kingman colt Quddwah maintain his unbeaten run.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 2nd May 2024:

Only one of the five runners in Ascot’s Listed Paradise Stakes, a one mile trial event for the Gr.1 Queen Anne Stakes, had raced this season, but he did not figure in the finish as Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum’s Kingman colt Quddwah came out best.

The four-year-old had won twice last May, but had not been seen since, and he maintained his unbeaten record when coming with a steady late run to win by a neck. Five-year-old Maljoom, who had only raced twice since landing the 2022 Gr.2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen, had led at the two-furlong marker, but was headed by Docklands, and he had looked the likely winner until Quddwah overhauled him close home.

The Godolphin-bred winner who, like the placed horses, does indeed hold an entry in the Queen Anne Stakes, is the last of the five foals produced by the King’s Best mare Sajjhaa, who was a Gr.3 winner in Italy but did even better in Dubai, where she won the Gr.1 Dubai Duty Free, Gr.1 Jebel Hatta and two Gr.2 races. Three of her previous foals are winners, including Nabbeyl, a ten-time winner in Italy. Sajjhaa is out of a daughter of the Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 Oaks runner-up Noushkey, who also raced in Sheikh Ahmed’s colours after her 55,000gns Tattersalls purchase as a yearling. She is a half-sister to the Gr.1-winning stayer San Sebastian and the dam of dual Gr.1 winner and sire Alkaased.
